Al Rayyan Road Upgrade Project

The Al Rayyan Road Upgrade Project, part of Qatar National Vision 2030, was designed to create a sustainable road network, minimize congestion, and improve travel efficiency. Encardio-rite, in collaboration with Rite Geosystems WLL, provided geotechnical monitoring solutions to ensure excavation safety and structural integrity. Instruments such as inclinometers, load cells, and piezometers were used to track ground movement, pore-water pressure, and lateral displacement. Discover how advanced monitoring techniques helped optimize construction methodologies for long-term infrastructure resilience.

Al Rayyan Road Upgrade Project

Al Rayyan Road Upgrade project was constructed to create a long-term, sustainable road network, reduce traffic congestion, and minimize journey time. This project is part of Qatar National Vision 2030. Encardio-rite was awarded an I&M sub-contract for the complete monitoring solutions for the excavation works.

Monitoring solutions determined existing ground, structure, and pore-water pressure movements and trends prior to the commencement of construction. Also, monitoring of parameters like lateral movements of the wall, strut/anchor loads, etc. provided a check whether they are within allowable limits. If exceeded, construction methodology required remedial changes. Monitoring also provided deflection and deformation data for the verification of the initial design of permanent structures and temporary works supporting excavation.  Thus monitoring provided confidence in the construction process.

Encardio-rite’s sister concern Rite Geosystems WLL in Qatar was awarded the monitoring works for the project. Scope of works included:

  • Supply, installation, and monitoring of geotechnical instruments that included majorly inclinometer, load cells, and piezometers.
  • Daily & weekly reporting with evaluation & Interpretation
  • Annual calibration of readout units and probes

Monitoring reports including interpretations of variations observed in instrument data, mentioning the factors likely to affect their behavior e.g. construction, dewatering, third-party activities, etc. were provided to the contractor on a regular basis.
