JSW Steel Earth Dam

The JSW Steel plant-built earth dam develops a 0.3 TMC capacity reservoir to supply water for the steel plant without impacting the local water supply. The dam is monitored by Encardio Rite using safety instrumentation, including piezometers, inclinometers, and earth pressure cells. The reservoir is filled through a 20 km water pipeline, and the entire project is monitored in near-real-time with advanced data loggers and a web-based data management system. Automated alerts help ensure safe and efficient construction progress.

JSW Steel Earth Dam

JSW Steel plant built an earth dam to develop a reservoir for the steel plant without affecting the water supply to the citizens. The reservoir was filled with water through a 20 km water pipeline. The reservoirs with 0.3 TMC capacity had hills on one side, and on the other side, a 30 m high earth dam was built.

Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for the supply and the installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:

Piezometers - foundation and embankment
In-place inclinometer to monitor lateral movement
Earth pressure cells

Online monitoring was done using advanced dataloggers and a web-based data management system. The online data was available online through our web-based data management system to the Contractor, Client as well as Consultant on their desktops, laptops, and mobiles. The database management software has the provision to give alarms by SMS/email in case any data crosses the pre-set review and alert levels. The near-real-time data helped in the smooth and cost-effective progress of construction works.
